Welcome to the Suburban Aero Club of
Chicago (SAC) website. Sanctioned in 1963 by the
Academy of Model Aeronautics, SAC is one of the premier
model flying clubs in the greater Chicago region.
Whether you are a newcomer to the field of model
aviation or a seasoned veteran, we welcome all ages,
gender and skill levels.
Our newly constructed flying site,
located in the Tinley Creek Forest Preserve, off Cicero
Avenue just north of Vollmer Road, has a variety of
dedicated flying areas to suit everyone’s needs and
talents. We boast a 50’ by 300’ paved runway for fixed
wing aircraft, dedicated paved helicopter pads, a
control line area, as well as a large field for
free-flight enthusiasts. So whatever your passion, we
have the field for you.
Throughout the
flying season, we host several club-sponsored events
that are open to anyone carrying a current Academy of
Model Aeronautics (AMA) license. For those who desire
to endeavor in float flying, we even host flying off the
water at the Twin Lakes Forest Preserve at 167th
and Cicero Avenue. So for those who wish to “get
their feet wet”, come on out.
If you are a
beginner and desire the assistance of one of our
experienced instructors please contact us; we are
there to help. Or if you’re an experienced pilot and
desire to tryout a new field and make some new friends I
encourage you to stop by and say hello.
For additional
information on club activities and meeting schedules,
check out our club calendar on this website as well as
events listed in our latest copy of our monthly news
letter, the Dope Can.
Our entire
membership shares in a common passion, model aviation,
and our club goal is to provide you with the best
experience that the hobby offers while, at the same
time, having fun!
